Dave's Story

I joined MHW in July 2018. I heard about the program through a family member. I wanted to see what it was about so I came in to an Orientation. I was thinking about my weight because all of my children are about to leave the house. It’ll be me and my wife and I want to be around long enough to live and see grandchildren. I want to prolong my life as long as possible so I can live in my home without needing care. I saw my dad deteriorate with diabetes and I want to avoid that as much as possible.

MHW was the first program that said I could eat as much as I wanted. I am always allowed to eat. Like everyone, I get cravings, and I have challenges watching others eat, but MHW always gives you an alternative. That’s what convinced me to give it a try. I spent 3 or 4 months in Phase 1 and I lost 40 pounds. I’m almost up to 50 pounds total, now. I’m faster, I’m more agile, and I look better. I believe I’ve met my goals here.

It wasn’t difficult at all for me to lose weight. I’ve always tried to be conscious of making the right choices, but I just didn’t know how to do it right. This program showed me. I don’t know how they train the instructors here, but the instructor I have been working with has not made me feel bad for any setbacks. They do a great job of explaining how the individual skills benefit us. They help you understand what’s happening so you can repeat those things that work.

I love the group sessions because I have developed friendships. We’re all in the same struggle. We’re all trying to figure out how to do things better. We share recipes, we support each other, we share successes, and we love to hear the bell ring when someone reaches a milestone.

I found the recipes most helpful. There’s so much you can eat! Now, I can cook potatoes 15 different ways. I can make a shake into ice cream that I can eat every day without gaining weight. I can find something at almost any restaurant that I can eat. I even make things that other people (who aren’t dieting) want to taste and take from me!

It wasn’t all easy. In Phase 1 I went “out of the box” twice. But you learn how to handle each challenge better the next time. I’ve never paid this much attention to what I eat. I’m reading menus, looking at calories, and thinking about better choices. And I’ve had to move my grocery budget to start purchasing healthier options. These are challenges, but the results are worth it.

This program appealed to me, I tried it, and it has been right for me. It’s very adaptable. This is the first one that gave me the discipline and the understanding of why I’m doing what I need to do in order to be successful. I’m 100% satisfied. I’m happy, and I know if I stay with this program for the rest of my life, I can stay happy. I absolutely recommend MHW.

I’ve explained the program to several people. They always react positively. I wouldn’t recommend anything if I didn’t believe in it 100%. I want to go until I can’t learn anymore, and from what I can see, that’s unlimited!
